Visit the Cole Land Transportation Museum after hours on June 13th for its second Night at the Museum event. In partnership with Some Theatre Company, they will again be replacing manikins with live actors to truly bring the museum to life. Children will be engaged with a scavenger hunt to find the actors around the museum, who will be representing different historical occupations. Prizes will be handed out, and a special photo area will be set up with some of the “child-sized” vehicles. Make sure to mark your calendars for this fun-filled evening. The event will start at 5pm and go until 8pm.

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s Day
This Friday, May 5th, which is tomorrow. We encourage everyone to wear red to show support and solidarity for Indigenous Women. In 2016, there were 5,712 reports of missing indigenous women and girls in the United States alone. Murder is the third leading cause of death of Native Women, so we would really love it if everyone tried their best to wear red to raise awareness of this cause and show all your support.

The Taken
I’ve recently read a book called The Taken by Inger Ash Wolfe for a book report. It’s about a detective who was forced to move into her ex-husband’s basement after a major back surgery. She is humiliated by his new wife as she brings her meals down on a tray but eventually gets a call about a body that was fished up and starts to investigate it. She knows someone is trying to get in the way, but she doesn’t stop investigating to get to the bottom of what happened. Overall, I really liked this book because it’s a big mystery and leaves you wondering and wanting to read more.

Overnight Campout
The Overnight Campout was recently hosted by the GSA, CRTP (Civil Rhts Team Project), and the math team. This was the 2nd year that this event took place. Twenty-four students spent the night. Students mostly played games. There was hide-and-seek, manhunt, Cards Against Humanity, Magic the Gathering. Various board games were also played. A few Switches were brought and there were groups playing Mario Kart or Smash Brothers. There was karaoke in the gym as well as regular sports being played in the gym. The library was their more quiet area with movies playing. They were there from 6 PM until 7 AM.

California’s severe weather
Thousands of Californians fled their homes as severe weather continued to batter the state, leaving one dead, a child missing, and massive swaths of power outages last week. Homes were flooded, streets were transformed into rivers and cars were swamped. One person was killed in Avila beach, roughly 180 miles north of Los Angeles, when a vehicle was overtaken by water. A child is also missing after being swept away when floodwaters swamped a vehicle in the northern section of the county. As of 7:15am PT on Tuesday, more than 232,000 utility customers were without power across California.

Mrs. Hewett has shared some of her students’ best artwork to give us an insight as to what people are working on in her different art classes. Mount View High certainly has some talented artists.
